Each time a significant awards ceremony approaches, you'll find a clamor to include additional classifications to honor unsung work and delight the spirits of fans dedicated to specific genres.
My colleague made the case supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. So would board games, representing someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize since similar to single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial and significant. The demand is this: There should be an award type for logic-based games.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why movie academies don’t do it. Yet it remains an essential concession within the realm of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify a single creative category.
For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement for most games within them.
Not so for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Think about these recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles in a particular game, intense tile-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. What category would fit them between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Acknowledgment Issues
Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles launched regularly lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested independent game categories.
- An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated for anything that year
- A different innovative game received no nominations that year
- A beloved organization game got ignored recently
- Limited numbers of logic titles barely qualified for niche award types
Importance of Logic Titles
These are often modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most engaged experiences in the world continuing this trend for an extended period.
The iconic tile-matching title challenges famous sandbox experiences for the title of most purchased experience; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.
The Solution and Justification
Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. It would be easy to populate a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.
And to reiterate, these represent titles that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers function at the challenging frontier of video game design, producing among essential manifestations of the video game form. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait 35 years.
