Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences growing in influence within the city.
Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Warrior Group Revealed
Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of characters who will separate from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table features Teor (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
What Defines the Combat Party
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem mismatched, but the actions of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the group knows exactly where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing started the story’s plot—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.
The traitor then cleared his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each character has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and advises that it is a hostile location.
- The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their position as important members in the influential clan could assist the group enter locations they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, Teor vowed a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- Teor is marked for death by the clan.
This means them little choice but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.
What’s Next?
From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Seekers and Schemers tables.
Audiences can expect learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
